580.469 Design of Economic Health Care Technologies
Course Overview
This spring semester course is offered to juniors and seniors in engineering with an interest in developing economic healthcare technologies for global healthcare needs. Healthcare technologies for global use need to be cost effective and serve the needs of a disadvantaged population. In the US as well healthcare costs are spiraling and economic healthcare technologies and solutions will be necessary. This laboratory course will focus on identifying healthcare needs, coming up with innovative technical solutions, designing and building instrument prototypes and exploring how such technologies can be disseminated globally. A new laboratory, EcoHealth, will be set up to do rapid prototyping and the students will implement independent designs in this lab after doing proper needs identification and finding appropriate target needs. Students will be required to write the problem statement and the need analysis, submit a patent on the design, and create a short proposal to seek funding from philanthropic or government/non-government agencies.
