Tactile Sensing
Low-cost textile fingertip sensors applied to a prosthetic hand can provide basic tactile feedback to the prosthesis controller. This external information can be used to enhance the functionality of a prosthesis during grasping. We relay force information to the prosthesis control unit to help improve the handling of objects by creating a closed-loop tactile feedback system.
 
Design of the low-cost finger sensor cuff. Conductive traces act as the sensing element beneath the rubber layer.
Experiment with an amputee to evaluate the effect of tactile feedback on prosthesis grasping.
